Introduction
Irena Wilkosz (19..) was born in Poland and has been living in the Netherlands since 1986. Her youth was mostly spent in Russia, where she worked intensively on her art. She is an autodidact who was granted a degree equivalent to that of the Academy of arts in 1985 by the Polish Ministry of Arts and Culture. Her melancholic paintings awaken many feelings in the viewer. The symbolically realistic landscapes and the way in which the human being manifests her/himself therein cause alienation on a grand scale. Nostalgic landscape elements and medieval buildings create an archaic scenery, in which desolation and idyll interact wonderfully.
